  • by user : Metrics calculated based on the publications aggregated at the user level, i.e., all XD publications are grouped by authors(identified XD persons), and the metrics are calculated for each user. See the table below for the explanation of how the metrics are derived.
  • by organization : Metrics calculated based on the publications aggregated at the organization level, i.e., all XD publications are grouped by authors' organizations, and the metrics are calculated for each organization. See the table below for the explanation of how the metrics are derived.
  • by project : Metrics calculated based on the publications aggregated at the XSEDE project level, i.e., all XD publications are grouped by associated XD projects (user-provided data during upload of the publications), and the metrics are calculated for each project. See the table below for the explanation of how the metrics are derived.
  • by FOS : Metrics calculated based on the publications aggregated at the field of science level, i.e., all XD publications are grouped by the FOS they belong to identified by the classification based on their associated XD projects (user-provided data during upload of the publications), and the metrics are calculated for each FOS. See the table below for the explanation of how the metrics are derived.

NOTES:

  1. The publication data were obtained from a) The past TeraGrid/XSEDE quarterly reports between 2005~2013; b) The XSEDE portal publication data uploaded by users through Jan 31, 2017. The citation data were obtained from ISI Web of Science and updated as of Jan 31, 2017. The user data were obtained from XDcDB. The usage data were obtained from XDMoD.
  2. The XD portal asks a user to provide the association of a publication with a XD project as part of the uploading process. These publications are then identified as XSEDE related publications.
  3. Note that the metrics may not reflect the complete measurement of a user/organization/project since there is no guarantee that those submitted publications are the complete list of XSEDE related publications that are related to a user/organization/project.
  4. Explanation of the metrics used
  5. Metric Name Metric Description
    # of Pubs Number of publications belonging to the entity(user/organization/project)
    # of Pubs (recent) Number of publications belonging to the entity(user/organization/project) published since 2012
Cited by Accumulated number of citations received of ALL the publications
Cited by (recent) Number of citations received of the publications published since 2012
H-index hindex computed by ALL the publications. hindex is the maximum number h such that h publications of the entity(user/organization/project) received at least h citations each. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-index and http://www.pnas.org/content/102/46/16569
H-index (recent) hindex computed by only the publications published since 2012
H-index (m) hindex divided by scientific career span (identified by year span of the earliest and the latest publication of the entity(user/organization/project) ). See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-index and http://www.pnas.org/content/102/46/16569
G-index gindex computed by ALL the publications. gindex is the maximum number g such that g publications of the entity(user/organization/project) received on average at least g citations each. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-index and http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11192-006-0144-7
G-index (recent) gindex computed by only the publications published since 2012
i10-index i10index computed by ALL the publications. i10-index is the number of publications that have received at least 10 citations, for a given entity(user/organization/project). Google Scholar introduced this metric first in 2011. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I10-index
i10-index (recent) i10index computed by only the publications published since 2012
Tips: Hover the cursor over the table header or a cell will display a tooltip showing the meaning of the metric
  6. Please note generally the above metrics are defined on the basis of a user. We have extended this approach to apply to also on the basis of an organization as well as an XD project, when treating the organization/project entity as a 'person'.
